Our modules already pass IEC type testing. Why certify the management system?
Type testing proves that a sample design performed in a laboratory. It says nothing about the ten thousandth module off the line. ISO 9001 covers incoming material control, process parameters, in-line inspection, EL testing discipline, and how a defect trend is investigated and stopped. Lenders and developers ask for both, because one covers the design and the other covers the production behind it.
Will certification satisfy lender technical due diligence on its own?
No, but it removes a large part of the questionnaire. Technical advisers still model yield, review the design and inspect construction. What certification answers is the organisational side: who qualified the supplier, who signed off the inspection test plan, how non-conformances were closed. Projects without that evidence usually pick up a condition precedent and a delay to disbursement.
Can one certificate cover EPC work across several project sites?
Yes, under a multi-site scope. Head office plus a sample of active sites are audited, and the sample grows with the number of locations. Sites that finish mid-cycle are replaced at surveillance. The scope statement should name the activities, from design and procurement through construction, commissioning and O&M, because developers compare that wording against what they are contracting you to do.
Does CE marking apply to the module, the inverter or the plant?
To the products placed on the market, not to the installed plant. Modules, inverters, combiner boxes and mounting systems each fall under the relevant directives, and each needs its own technical file, declaration of conformity and traceable factory production control. The installed system is governed by national electrical installation rules instead. Distributors check the product-level documentation before listing.
How does a buyer check that a certificate is genuine?
Through the accreditation register. Every accredited certificate carries an accreditation mark and a number that resolves to the certified organisation, its scope and the expiry date. SIS certificates are issued under IAS accreditation and recognised through the IAF arrangement. Cheap non-accredited certificates fail this check during vendor verification, and the company ends up paying for the audit twice.
What does surveillance look like for an operating solar portfolio?
One audit a year, sized to the portfolio. The auditor looks at what changed: new sites, new subcontractors, plant performance against the maintenance plan, and findings from last time. Sampling covers head office plus one or two locations. Recertification at three years is a fuller audit. Sites commissioned mid-cycle are brought in through notification rather than a separate certificate.
